Heat

Weegee-1943-Man Sleeping on a Fire Escape

New York of 1930's/40's there was no air conditioning but summers were hot.  People try to deal with the unbearable heat the best way they could by sleeping on the fire escapes.  It is quiet unusual idea but if we consider how uncomfortable heat can be and the fact that trying to get a good night rest in this condition is impossible the  idea of seeping outside is quit appealing.  This picture was taken by Weegee famous crime photographer of 30's and 40's. This way of dealing with hot weather has been a subject of Arthur Miller essay 'Before air conditioning'  I find looking into the past very interesting way of realizing how much our lives progressed in a very short time.
